At the extraordinary General Assembly in August 2024, Joseph S. Blatter was elected as the first Honorary President of the WSCA.
With Joseph S. Blatter, one of the most important personalities in the international sporting world has pledged his support for our association. Now 88 years old, the man from Upper Valais joined FIFA in 1975 as Director of Development Programs. This was the start of one of the most impressive and successful careers in world sport. Blatter turned a club with eleven employees into a Global Organization with over 450 permanent employees. When he was elected FIFA’s eighth president in 1998, the world football association was 20 million dollars in debt. The most important steps in the development of world football probably took place
during his term of office. Blatter brought the World Cup finals to Asia and Africa. With the ‘marriage’ between television and football, he heralded the development of the game into a global billion-dollar business. When he had to step down in 2016, FIFA was left with a fortune of 1.5 billion dollars.
On behalf of the entire Executive Board, we congratulate Joseph S. Blatter on his election. We are delighted that he is carrying the four letters of the WSCA.
